May Crown ASLI

From Friday 6th to Sunday 8th of May 2016, the May Crown AS51 Crown Tournament of Lochac was hosted by the Barony of Kraé Glas at the Clifford Park Activity Centre, 7 Clifford Dr, Wonga Park, Victoria, Australia. The event steward was Lady Veronica Bellini, and the food and layout was inspired by the comfort and splendour of the late-period Ottoman Empire. The event token was a gold sphere hung by a cord.

Opening Court

Guildmaster Don Gilbert de Walghop was admitted into Lochac’s Order of Defence, becoming the seventh Peer of the Order.

Afterwards, Their Majesties called up the Ottoman physician – The Honourable Lady Clara Bone-Adventure – to ask about the Queen’s recent ill health. It was at this time that all were advised that Queen Bethony was with child and she immediately insisted that the Kingdom seek Heirs immediately so that They could step down in preparation for the arrival of Their newest family member.

Invocation Court

Saturday began as a warm, sunny day with clear skies and a buzz of excitement from the crowd.

Sixteen combatants presented themselves, and their consorts, to the Crown during Invocation Court with their intention to enter Lochac’s May Crown Tournament AS51. In order of precedence, the entrants included:

Crown Tournament and Results

Lists were run by Mistress Nicolette Dufay, and the heralds were co-ordinated by Lord Miguel Rodriguez de Santiago.

Seven rounds were fought – the first six were single kill, double elimination and the finals were fought as a best of three. Lord Benedict of York fought each of the byes.

Round 6

At the end of Round 5, three fighters remained. Count Steffan and Sir ThorolfR were as yet undefeated and Sir Jon had lost one life. As such, Their Majesties decreed that Count Steffan and Sir ThorolfR would fight each other. The victor would go to the finals, and the fallen would fight Sir Jon for the second spot in the finals.

Round 7 (Finals)

Baron Sir ThorolfR won the first.
Count Sir Steffan won the second.
In the third, Count Sir Steffan legged Baron Sir ThorolfR at the same time as Baron Sir ThorolfR took Steffan’s right (dominant) arm. After a long and tense final, Baron Sir ThorolfR emerged victorious.

Baron Sir ThorolfR olfuss Brandsson and Baroness Vinagjafar Hrafnsdóttir were named as the 29th Crown Prince and Princess of Lochac. Count Sir Steffan Glaube became Lochac Champion Elect and Countess Branwen became Lady of Lochac Elect.

Victory Feast

The victory feast on Saturday night was run by the feasting steward Baroness Elspeth Caerwent. The food was plentiful and a diverse range of delicacies were served across three courses.

  • Orlok Hanbal al-Barbari was named as Vicar of Stormhold, minding the Barony on behalf of the Crown Prince and Princess until they step down at Twelfth Night 2017.

  • Master Dafydd of the Glens and helpers sang an entertaining song – ‘A Tale of Today’s Finals’, filked to the tune of Stella Splendens.
  • Lucas and Erin of Krae Glas were presented Award of Arms.
  • Elizabet Hunter told grievous news to the Crown, that someone had been overlooked for reward. Liam Thorolfsson was called forward and presented an Award of Arms.
  • His Highness ThorolfR olfuss Brandsson was awarded the Star and Lily.
  • The Crown of Drachenwald sent Ambassador’s with a missive and gifts in amity.

Competition Results

The Worshipful Company of Broiderers ran a Bayeaux Stitch competition. The winner was announced in Court as The Honourable Lady Miriam bat Shimeon.

Three Kingdom Arts and Sciences competitions were run on Saturday, with the following results:

Sunday

Unfortunately, the wonderful weather from Saturday turned overnight into overcast skies and a continuous drizzle of rain. A few keen people did pickups under shelter, but the Rose Tournaments for Heavy Combat and Rapier had to be cancelled.

Her Majesty Bethony thoughtfully offered the roses that would have been used in those tournaments to all mothers at the event in honour of it also being Mother’s Day.

Royal Court

  • Lord Checkers was rewarded with an Award of Arms and the Silver Helm.
  • Orlok Hanbal plugged Thor’s War in September in Stormhold – it will be a Royal Event.
  • Master Hrothgar plugged Winter Feast, which will be the weekend after Midwinter in Western Stormhold.
  • Baron Leif Magnússon was asked to join the Order of the Pelican, lured by a bowl of freshly cooked bacon, and accepted the offer (to be elevated at a later date).
  • King Gilbert gave some final words about the Royal Household remaining in Constantinople for a while longer, and expressed their joy at finding Their Heirs, and Their anticipation of more fun in Their continuing travels around the Kingdom.
