House Radburne was created by Lady Katrijn van Delden and Lord Terence of Radburne in 2008 to keep ‘The Dream’ alive in the far western reaches of the Barony of Rowany in the Kingdom of Lochac and is based in Dubbo, NSW, Australia.
The Proposed Shire of Radburne was originally started in the Central West of NSW in roughly 2005 by Lady Katrijn and Sayyida Aminah bint Yusuf al- Zarqar who were then joined by Valdemar Sigurdson and Johanna von Enschede. There have been other influential members who lived for a short time in the area such as Baron Sir Guillaume d’Oze, Lady Francesca da Tivoli and Baron Sorle Maknicoll who helped make Radburne what it is today. Sadly, the population in the area was not sufficient to maintain a shire and after nearly burning the driving members out trying to recruit and maintain members, it was decided a Household was the ‘sane’ option.

The household has members from predominately the Dubbo and Mudgee NSW areas however there are other members from across Lochac who generally catch up at Rowany Festival.
“Radburne” means ‘red river’ and given that Dubbo means ‘red earth’ and is situated on a river, the members thought it a fitting name. Whilst House Radburne doesn’t have a registered badge at the moment, they are known by the adopted badge based on the Radburne device (as the members are the same).
House Radburne was admitted to the Company of the Pride of Lochac by Their Majesties Cornelius III and Elizabeth I on 5 November 2011.
House Radburne is known for holding Radburne War on the first weekend of August each year (starting in 2007), with the exception of 2014.
The “official” history of the founding of Radburne, as written by Lady Mayela de la Rue on the occasion of Radburne’s Inaugural Feast, goes as follows:
Once, many moons ago, far, far west of the ocean, there was a dry flat land barren of joy and o’er run with giants. The God of Thunder, Thor, watched o’er the land and was angered by the ruin the giants caused on what would be a beautiful land. The populace of the land hid and cowered for fear of the giants. When all appeared lost, a Knight came to the land in search of new life. In his first month of residing in the fair land he had battled many giants and escaped narrowly with his life. The local people saw he was a brave knight and rallied around in show of support. One cold night, over many meads, the people joined together and plotted against the giants. In the frost of the morning the people gathered wild grapes, berries and other fruits and congregated at the small stream that trickled through the land. As the sun rose, the Knight gallantly rode along the stream where he met the leader of the giants. The bold Knight said unto the giant “Leave this fair land or feel my wrath!” The giant laughed and growled with menace. The Knight yelled out “Then feel my wrath, I shall poison your stream with blood and if you do not take head I shall do worse to you!” With that, the townspeople stomped the grapes and berries and the juices ran into the stream staining the water red. The giants saw the red stream and fled in fear never to return again. The townspeople cheered and rejoiced. Thor, God of Thunder, saw this cunning ploy and rewarded the townspeople by filling their stream to become a mighty red river and created a menagerie of animals from far and wide for the townspeople to enjoy for years to come. And so Radburne was born. Baron Hrothgar and Count Stephen (on the occasion of Radburne’s Inaugural Feast) did challenge the populace, divided into two groups, to create a piece of entertainment for their Excellencies. One group performed this story and were deemed the winners by Their Excellencies. Many thanks go to our gallant young Knight Samuel and to our giants Thomas and Freiderick for their outstanding performances.
House Radburne’s main focus is on being family and archer friendly! Radburne has authorised combat archers, heavies and a banner bearer as well as an Equestrian Marshal and rider. The household’s activities tend to focus on archery, tourneys and feasting with the newest focus on equestrian activities! Anyone that has been to a Radburne War and has tasted the camp fire cooking of Lord Terence knows you don’t go away disappointed!
House Radburne hosted November Crown Tourney in 2011 at ‘Dragon Hill’ in Dubbo, NSW.
