Rowany Yule

At Rowany Yule AS48 (December 2013), Their Excellencies Crispin Sexi and Joan Sutton, Baron and Baroness of Politarchopolis, sent a missive to the Baron and Baroness of Rowany, Their Excellencies Loyola Juan Sanchez Mendoza and Annora Martin, that read as follows:

Unto Their Majesties, Royals, Rowany and Nobles all, Politarchopolis
sends heartfelt greetings.

In honour of the Crown Prince and Princess, their upcoming reign being
styled in the ways of ancient Greece, we have taken it
upon ourselves to consult the Oracle, and have asked advice to guide
Politarchopolis in the coming half year.
The Oracle, she chewed leaves of the Laurel tree, and inhaled fumes from
a rift in the earth, and before passing out she uttered
moans and shrieks, which the assembled priests did wisely interpret into
actual words.

And they said the Oracle spake thus:
“The field is thick with spears of wood, but
Mighty Oaks grow not from Rowan Seeds”

The Oracle is never wrong, though oft takes some deep pondering to
understand, and this prediction is no different. We
thought perhaps you, our cousins, might have some insight into these
words, given your familiarity with Rowan trees. We
shall share our ponderings with you when we meet at the feast of Twelfth
Night.

Until then, may fortune favour all,
Crispin and Joan, Politarchopolis

From this missive, Their Excellencies Politarchopolis believed that the Oracle was telling them to claim the Rowanite Canton of Okewaite as their own. This missive began the start of a prominent storyline in Their Majesties reign with the Barons of Politarchopolis and Rowany debating the ownership of the Canton of Okewaite.

Alfar of Attica and Angharat Benbras were crowned King and Queen of Lochac at Twelfth Night AS48 (2014), hosted by the Canton of Okewaite in the Barony of Rowany. Their reign is in the styling of Ancient Greece.

Following the coronation of King Alfar III and Queen Angharat I, Their Excellencies of Politarchopolis and Rowany were at each other once more over the Oracle’s poetic prophecy. This exchange is documented in a missive sent to the populace of Politarchopolis:

Greetings All,

At 12th Night, Baron Loyola of Rowany and Baron Crispin had a full and
frank discussion of the meaning of the prophecy we had from the Oracle.

It is our belief that the “Rowan Seeds” mentioned represent Rowany, and
that the Oaks represent Okewaite, a canton currently under the care of
Rowany.  Crispin put it to Loyola that the prediction meant that
Okewaite would not grow and prosper under Rowany, and that for their own
good he should make the canton over to Politarchopolis.

Baron Loyola did not see it our way. Rowany would rather allow the
canton to languish, than see it flourish as it should.

The Crown have stated that They will ponder the issue, for it is not a
simple one and the Oracle is never wrong.

With so much at stake, unless Rowany change their minds or the King and
Queen find a solution, we have vowed to bring an army to Festival to
settle the matter.

So, we call upon the households, citizens and friends of Politarchopolis
to support us in following the Oracle’s sage advice.  At St Valentines
we will have more news, and will be receiving war oaths from all those
who would join our cause.

– Crispin and Joan, Politarchopolis

The debate over ownership of Okewaite came to a head at Rowany Festival AS48 (April 2014). King Alfar III attempted to mediate between the Barons of Rowany and Politarchopolis, however, both insisted that Okewaite should be theirs.

Different Baronies, groups and households of Lochac processed into opening court at Festival, proclaiming their support to one Barony or the other. Just when war seemed inevitable, the Oracle showed up crying out “this must not be!”

King Alfar III took heed of the Oracle’s new message that war between Rowany and Politarchopolis would tear the Kingdom apart. In the place of such devastating war, His Majesty announced that Lochac’s first and inaugural Olympiad would be held to determine which Barony won the rights to govern the lands of Okewaite. To the winner would also go the perpetual trophy: a silk banner, commissioned from Lady Elizabet Hunter, depicting Nike the Goddess of Victory hoisted on a spear.

The Olympiad consisted of many rounds, including javelin throwing, discus, shot-put, running in armour, running out of armour, target archery and tug-of-war. His Majesty announced that Rowany and her allies were victorious in the inaugural Olympiad, winning 93 points to 87 over Politarchopolis and her allies.

After Alfar III and Angharat I named Count Sir Niall inn Orkneyskii and Countess Liadan ingen Fheradaig as Their successors to the Crown of Lochac, they stepped down and went for a long walk. Curiously, when they returned, they appeared to be a little… otherworldy…
