Lochac began as a small number of enthusiastic gamers in 1980. By September 1985, there were 95 members (excluding Aneala Scir). In September 2014, this membership grew to 1,710.
From August 2006 (the oldest Kingdom record available) to August 2014, Lochac grew 205% from 830 to 1,702. A significant proportion of this growth occurred in the 2012-13 financial year, and this increase may correspond to the time that membership and insurance changes occurred in Lochac (causing non-member participants to join to avoid excess fees for non-members at all events and trainings).
In terms of membership by Barony, in September 2014, Lochac currently has three distinctive sizes by membership level. The first size is referred to as ‘Super Barony’, defined as having between 150 and 250 members. There are four Super Baronies in Lochac: Rowany, River Haven, Stormhold and Politarchopolis. The second size is referred to as ‘Large Barony’, defined as having between 100-150 members. Lochac has three Large Baronies: Aneala, Innilgard, and Saint-Florian-de-la-rivière. The third and final size is referred to as ‘Standard Barony’, defined by having 50-100 members. There are five Baronies in Lochac that fit in this category: Southron Gaard, Ynys Fawr, Mordenvale, Kraé Glas, and Ildhafn.
In August 2013, approximately 75% of authorised people in Lochac (heavy, rapier, archery and equestrian) were also members. By August 2014, this increased closer to 100%, partially attributed to indemnity changes.
Over the past five years, authorisations for heavy combat have grown 8.8%, combat archery have fallen 34.2%, rapier have grown 33.8% and equestrian has grown 160.0%. From August 2013 to August 2014, authorisations have dropped 2.9% for heavy combat, 23.4% for combat archery and -2.5% for equestrian, however, rapier has grown 2.0%.
