Fields of Gold (FoG) is a weekend long event (Friday to Sunday), held at Bungendore Showgrounds in New South Wales. It is hosted by the Barony of Politarchopolis, and has recently become the biggest event in the Barony.
Event Origins and Background
The event was created by Baroness Alesia de Cheval Blanc and was first held on the weekend of the 16th to the 18th of December 2011. FoG is intended to reproduce the pageantry and spectacle of high medieval tournaments, particularly inspired by the magnificent tournaments held by the Dukes of Burgundy in the later 15th century.
The perpetual pewter-cast event tokens were made by Sir Kitan von Falkenberg, and depict the golden fleece.
Fields of gold includes multiple tournaments across all SCA skill-at-arms activities; armoured combat, rapier, archery and equestrian. The event also includes various Arts and Sciences classes and competitions, and markets.
Those who come to the event can opt to camp on site as there is ample space for tents, and onsite toilets and showers. A soup kitchen is usually run on the Friday night, breakfast and lunch are usually provided on Saturday and Sunday, and a feast is run in two parts on the Saturday night; the Feast of the Golden Gryphon in the primary feasting hall and the Bold Gryphon Tavern in the secondary feasting hall.
