May Crown AS49

On Saturday the 10^th of May 2014, the Barony of Aneala hosted the May Crown Tournament at Ern Halliday Recreation Camp in Perth. The event was stewarded by Baron Kilic ibn Sungur ibn al-Kazganci al-Turhani.

Lady Isabel de Annesley ran archery in the morning. Two Royal Rounds were held, with Ulfr Fra Jorvik winning the open division in both rounds, Alessandra de Florenza winning the period division in the first round and Lord Thomas of Caerdyf winning the period division in the second round.

Towards lunch time there was a large downpour of rain that covered the site in puddles, delaying opening court. However, around 1pm, the sky cleared, the sun shone brightly and the water dried away from the earth as though it was never there to begin with.

A total of eleven combatants and their consorts presented themselves to Their Majesties Alfar of Attica and Angharat Benbras, including Lochac’s first same sex couple. When the King and Queen’s sides were chosen, Lady Elysia Drifadòttir fighting for her wife and consort Lady Erin the Red were added to the King’s side in recognition of the historic moment.

The Crown Tournament began with combatants on the King’s side being asked to choose an opponent from the Queen’s side for round 1. The first 5 rounds of the tournament were run as a single kill, double elimination style.

As there was a three way tie, the semi finals were held as a round robin between Sir Steffan Glaube, Duke Sir Cornelius von Beck and Sir Nathan Blacktower. The first round robin ended in a tie, and as such it was repeated, finally resulting in Sir Steffan and Duke Sir Cornelius making it through to the grand final.

The final was fought as a best of three, with Cornelius winning the first, Steffan winning the second and Cornelius winning the third to become the 25th Crown Prince of Lochac and his consort Countess Elizabeth de Foxle becoming 25th Crown Princess of Lochac.

 

That night there was a feast of copious amounts of various fingerfoods, music and a ball, held in celebration of the occasion.

 

 

During court, Mistress Catherine de Arc was elevated to the Order of the Laurel.

Sir Steffan Glaube was named Champion of Lochac, Sir Nathan Blacktower was awarded the wreath of Chivalry and Lord Galen Wulfric was awarded the wreath of valour.

 

 

The Baron and Baroness of Aneala, Baron Kilic ibn Sungur ibn al-Kazganci al-Turhani and Baroness Branwen of Werchesvorde announced in court that they would be stepping down some time in September 2014.

On Sunday the 11^th of April 2014, the event continued with the traditional Rose tournament on the heavy list field and a five-life challenge tournament on the rapier list field.

Lady Elysia Drifadòttir was victorious in the rapier tournament, winning the best of 3 against Lord Zaven Zetounsi 2-1.

In closing court, His Majesty Alfar of Attica proclaimed that he had a dream. One by one he called up the three peerage Orders of the Chivalry, Laurel and Pelican. He described that His dream was of something missing – something with a beard. He then called Baron Kilic ibn Sungur ibn al-Kazganci al-Turhani and asked him publicly if he would be willing to join the Order of the Pelican, to which he agreed.
