Songs

History is not written by the winners. History is written by the winners’ bards.  Therefore wisely is it said: do not meddle in the affairs of bards, for they are subtle and quick to anger, and your name scans to Greensleeves.

– Karl Faustus von Aachen, quoting Anon

It would be absurd to try to record the history of a Kingdom without making a comprehensive history of the songs and poems of the Kingdom’s bards and minstrels.  In an effort to avoid at least this one absurdity, this section of the Library will grow, possibly unchecked.

By author: all songs and stories, arranged by the author’s SCA name.  That greatest composer of the bulk of the world’s best music, Anon, is grouped together for ease of location with his, her or their equally prolific cousin, Trad, under the general heading of “Author Uncertain”.

By title: all songs and stories, arranged by their best-known titles, with cross-references where a dispute exists about which title is “best-known”.

By branch, event or topic: where a song or story is specific to one branch (say the anthem of a particular barony) or an event (such as the many, many songs about Rowany Festival), or where it has a specific topic such as combat or feasts or the like, look for the “Bardic History” link on the relevant page elsewhere in the Library.
